Pictures of Spain 36

While in Seville, we spent one evening at a flamenco theater, and the performers were fantastic.  Here are a few shots I took that night.

Seattle 1

My recent travels took me to Seattle in addition to San Francisco, so let's mix in a few pictures from that stop as well.  Below are a few shots taken at the Seattle Rock Orchestra's performance of Sgt. Pepper and Magical Mystery Tour (with my niece Marenka playing the bassoon-- sadly she's mostly hidden in these shots in the back of the orchestra).

Above you see a couple of the celebrity vocalists who added their talents to the performance: John Roderick out of the Long Winters and Sean Nelson from Harvey Danger (as well as the Long Winters).  Below is a clear shot of Marenka, she with the bangs and big smile in the center of the photo (full disclosure: my sister Liz took the picture, having a better sight line to Marenka than I did, though she did use my camera ;-)

San Francisco 1

I still have some more photos to post from my trip to Spain, but this past week I spent a couple days in San Francisco, so thought I would put up a few shots I took there.  I was in the Bay Area to check out the career retrospective of work by the noted photographer Garry Winogrand, so some of what I shot reflected the influence of seeing that show (see below).  But the first few shots are just some typical tourist photos, starting with two taken at Coit Tower on Telegraph Hill.  Above is a view looking east to the Bay Bridge that connects San Francisco to Oakland.  Below is a shot looking west to the "crookedest" street in the world, Lombard St.

Above is a guy flying a kite early in the morning on the beach at the west end of Golden Gate Park.  Below, a shot of Alcatraz Island, also taken from Coit Tower.

Here's a landmark I just kind of stumbled on (realizing I was walking on Fulton Street near Haight-Ashbury)-- it's the Jefferson Airplane mansion.  I don't know if any part of the group still resides there, but it was famously their headquarters in the late sixties/early seventies.  Below is an example of a shot taken in an effort to emulate Winogrand's work.  More pictures from my visit will follow in coming days.

This Week's Top Five List

Here's the last Top Five List of the season from Dr. John's Record Shelf. It's not our best ever, but maybe it'll give you a chuckle.  The feature will return to the airwaves (and here) in the Fall with the start of a new season.

I'll probably run out of pictures to share of my trip eventually, but for now, a few more shots from around Seville.

Needless to say, I took a lot of pictures walking around in Seville (actually Madrid and Cordoba too).  Here's another batch of images.

The building above is the Seville Opera House.  The following three pictures are from the Plaza of the Americas.

More pictures of Seville today, starting with a fountain in the plaza next to the cathedral.

This is the front of a big record/dvd store, which was completely covered with giant photos of bullfighters and related topics.
