This Happened...
Last week my colleagues Bill Janus, Michael Francisconi, and I were challenged by fellow professor Sean Eudaily to take the Ice Bucket Challenge to benefit ALS research. Our student senate set up the group dousing earlier today, and here's the video they posted to YouTube. Note that the folks we name are challenged to follow-up with their own baptism for the cause. So Natalie, I look forward to seeing your video... If this inspires you to donate some money for ALS research, you can do so here.

This Week's Playlist & Podcast
Below you will find a list of the songs played this past week on Dr. John's Idiosyncratic History of Rock and Roll. Sort of as an antidote to last week's array of rock snob favorites, this week we went with AM Gold-- lots of pop hits from the period 1967 to about 1973. You can listen to a podcast of the broadcast by clicking here. Also, some big news: as of September 1, KDWG is streaming live on the web, so if you are so inclined, you can tune into the 15th season premiere of Dr. John's Record Shelf this Sunday from 5:00 to 7:00 pm (Mountain Time). Obviously I invite you to sample the rest of K-Dawg's schedule throughout the rest of the week. Click here to get to the live stream.

Huntington Gardens
One of my favorite places to visit is The Huntington Library in southern California. In addition to the titular library, there are several really nice art galleries and a spectacular set of gardens on the grounds. Most of these pictures were taken in the Japanese garden when I was there last May.
