More Photos of Rithymno

More images collected in the city of Rethymno in north central Crete, including several taken in and from the ruins of the old Venetian fortress that overlooks the harbor. The fellow in the black t-shirt in the shot below is my friend and colleague Alan Weltzien who organized this trip for a class studying the writings of Crete native Nikos Kazantzakis (best known as the author of the novel Zorba the Greek). Most of the places we visited featured in one or more of his writings, or had some other connection to his life or career (which also briefly included politics).

The Streets of Rethymno

Rethymno is a city on the north coast of Crete about halfway between Chania and Heraklion. We were only there for a few hours on my recent trip, but it was a pretty cool to wander around the old city and explore.
