Stavros Beach

Stavros Beach (aka Zorba's Beach) sits on the west coast of a big peninsula just to the northeast of Chania on Crete. It's the place where the final scene of the Anthony Quinn movie Zorba the Greek was filmed back in the sixties, the place where Quinn teaches Alan Bates how to dance at the end of the film.  Now, it's something of a tourist attraction, though as some of the photos below suggest, the original ruggedness of the place has not entirely disappeared.
