The ancient city of Itanos is an archaeological site on the extreme northeast corner of the island of Crete more or less in the center of the peninsula in the above photo). It was not on our group's itinerary, but while most of our co-travelers were enjoying Vai Beach a little to the south, my friend Alan and I hiked up over a nearby mountain to find the virtually vacant ruins (there was a smaller, "natural" beach adjacent to the site, with only a couple sun worshipers enjoying the summer like weather). These are some pictures I took at the site and in the vicinity.
