I know these appear to be pictures of piles of rocks, but they actually depict the ruins of the Palace of Zakros on the east coast of Crete. The palace dates back to the Minoan period, roughly 1600 BC, but the major excavation of the site only began in the 1960s. It's hard, as one walks around the site, not to try and imagine what life was like there almost 4000 years ago.
