Pictures of Spain 14
Today I have the first batch of pictures I took in Seville which, no slight intended to the other places I visited, was my favorite of all the places where we spent a little time. Above is the fountain outside the main cathedral. The rest are some random street shots.

More photos from Cordoba today, starting with a view of the Mesquita from the south side of the Guadalquiver River. The structure on the left is the Puente Romano, or Roman Bridge (the name should give you an idea of how old it is). Below is the angel statue that stands about midway across the bridge.
Looking over the bridge on the side opposite the angel, one can see the ruins of an old mill that used to operate on a small island in the middle of the river. Below are some shots taken while wandering around after nightfall.

Today, let's start with a couple more shots of the interior of the Mesquita in Cordoba. Above is a detail from the area above and behind the altar, and below a shot of the pipe organ above the chorale seats.
Above you see a part of the garden outside the Mesquita, and below one of the flower-lined narrow streets in the nearby Jewish quarter.
Seriously, there were a lot of flowers displayed on the walls in that neighborhood...

Pictures of Spain 10
Today's set of pictures were taken inside the Mesquita in Cordoba. This was a massive Muslim mosque that was appropriated by the Christians after they booted the Moors out of the Iberian peninsula. They built a cathedral into the structure, but it still retains many of its original features.
This Week's Top Five
After several attempts, it looks like I finally got this to load. It's this week's Top Five List from Dr. John's Record Shelf as it aired this past Sunday. I hope you enjoy it...

Above is the outer wall of the Mesquita, a centuries old mosque that was converted into a Christian cathedral after the Moors were evicted from the area. This picture hardly falls short in conveying just how huge this structure is. Below is the tower of the cathedral that was added to the structure.
More pictures to follow, along with this week's Top Five, if and when blogger starts letting me load stuff again.

Pictures of Spain 8
The first two days of our visit to Espana were spent in Madrid, as seen in previous postings. On day three, we headed down to Cordoba, about five hours south through the region of La Mancha (made famous, of course, by Miguel Cervantes stories of Don Quixote). Today I've got some shots taken along the road, mostly from the bus.
As yu can see, La Mancha is mostly flat farmland (lots of olive and almond trees). But every now and then along the way, a small town would pop up, like the one below (sorry, can't remember its name). That's a medieval castle and a row of windmills lined up along the top of the ridge.
