Pictures of Spain 4

 More photos of our travels around Madrid, starting with the monument to Miguel Cervantes and his famous creation Don Quixote above. 

According to our tour guide, Spain helped Egypt out of some kind of financial crisis awhile back, and in return the latter country sent the above temple remains to their benefactor. 

The Egyptian ruins are very near tot he Royal Palace, which was built in the 18th century (if I recall) after the previous palace-- made of wood-- burned down.  Above is the massive plaza that is bookended by the palace on one end and the Royal Cathedral on the other. 

 This is the front door of the palace...

 ... and this is the front of the cathedral. Unfortunately, we were not allowed to take pictures inside the palace, but below is part of the park just outside the grounds.  Tomorrow I'll have some more sights to share.
